Dorothy Hakes Skinner Mitchell passed away on May 9, 2020. Dorothy was born in Troy, New York, on Flag Day, June 14, 1923. She was the daughter of Esther and James William MacPherson. She spent most of her life in New York before relocating to Kent, Washington, in 1978.
Dorothy, lovingly known as “Mac” and “Grandma Mac” by her friends and family, is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Richard) Pochman, and a stepdaughter, Betsy Savery. Mac also has six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, her first husband, Warren Skinner, her second husband, Richard Mitchell, her sister, Ruth, and her stepdaughter, Margaret Vitolins.
Mac was a homemaker, a great cook, a well-regarded 4-H sewing judge, a seamstress, a baker, a knitter, a gardener, and a very talented artist. Her oil and watercolor paintings, along with her beautiful Christmas and greeting cards, were shared at craft shows, as well as with friends, and especially with family. Her extraordinary paintings and cards have been framed and adorn the walls of our family homes, allowing us to cherish lovely memories of our dear Grandma Mac and keep her close to our hearts.
Mac was cared for with love and kindness and treated with respect and dignity while she was a resident for the past three years at New Option Elderly Living In Renton, an Adult Family Home. We will forever be grateful for the exceptional care she received from Doina, Claudia, Jane and Larissa. Our heartfelt love and appreciation is sent their way.
