Glenn Jewell (also known as Martin Glen Jewell) 93, passed away peacefully at his home on May 4, 2023. Glen was born October 29, 1929, to William and Minnie Jewell in Pocatello, Idaho. He was one of nine children (Siblings: William Gene, Mary Elizia, Evelyn Arlene, Betty Louise, Lila Elaine, Donald Theodore, Donna, and Iva Patricia) and is survived by seven of his siblings. His father was a section foreman for the Union Pacific Railroad, and the family moved frequently, finally settling in Jerome, Idaho, where Glen graduated from Jerome High School in 1949.
Glen met Anna May Keplinger in Spokane, Washington and they married on Feb 3, 1953. They were subsequently sealed for time and all eternity in the Los Angeles, California house of the Lord on Oct 17, 1958. They later divorced on October 10, 1973. They were blessed with three children, Wesley, Renee, and Sheryl.
Glen joined the Air Force, where he was stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Washington. During his military service, the family was stationed in many different bases in the United States, Guam, Casa Blanca, and Thailand. Master Sergeant Glen Jewell was honorably discharged from military service, after 22 years, 6 months, and 15 days of exceptional service where he earned many honors, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award, Air Force Good Conduct Medal and the Bronze Star Medal. After his military retirement, he continued to serve the nation as a civil servant.
Glen met and married MaryAnn Hutchison on November 3, 1974, in Seattle Washington. MaryAnn brought four children, Julie, John, Jeff, and Joe to their wonderful blended family.
Glen enjoyed gardening and produced a bountiful crop of vegetables and flowers which he generously shared with friends and family. He enjoyed hunting (in his younger days), fishing, and camping. He and MaryAnn enjoyed traveling, in their motorhome, to Yuma and other locations with their friends.
Glen was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and enjoyed serving others. He was completely devoted to his wife, MaryAnn, and demonstrated his love through daily acts of kindness. Shortly before Glen passed through the veil to the loving arms of family, MaryAnn was hospitalized after a debilitating stroke. Glen spent hours a day at her bedside offering support, love, and encouragement.
Glen is survived by his wife, Maryann Jewell; children, Wesley (Melinda) Jewell, Renee Kendrick, Sheryl (Brian) Burns, Julie (Leo) Boucher, John Hutchison, Joe Hutchison, 22 grandchildren, and 31 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Minnie Jewell; brother, William Gene Jewell; sister, Betty Louise Jewell Wilde; sons, Jeff Hutchison (twin brother to Joe) and infant James Hutchison; and an infant great-grandson Noah Heinamann.
The family will greet friends at a viewing on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, from 11:30 am to 12:15 pm, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 26106 164th Ave SE, Covington, WA. The funeral service will follow at 12:30 pm.
Military honors and interment will be at the Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 SE 240th St, Kent, WA at 2:00 pm. All those attending need to be present at 1:45 pm for the procession to the graveside.
