Josephine Achen Obituary

Josephine M. Achen died June 1, 2020 at her Home in Renton, WA, at the age of 97 years. She was born March 4, 1923 in rural Skagit Valley, WA, to John and Mary Rose (O’Grady) Tanis. She graduated Lincoln High School, Mount Vernon, WA.

After the official school years. She travel to New Jersey where she work in a factory. Making parts for the Military. She was only 17yr old when she did that. She came back to Mount Vernon. Where her and Nellie Tanis, Katherine Tanis work in the cannery hauling pea, carrots, and corn. And that is where she met Walter B. Achen. They got married around 1948. Walter was service in the NAVY. In Oak Harbor.

On April 7, 1951 Teresa Joann was born in Corpus Christi Texas. Then when Teresa was about 5 year old. Her Dad got station in Kodiak, Alaska.  Josephine and Walt like to going fishing and crabbing, camping with some of the other NAVY families. From where Walter went back to Corpus Christi TX.  Walter Kevin was born September 16, 1957. When in 1959 Walter and his Family got  transferred to Bermuda. From 1959 to 1962. Janine Lynn was born November 8, 1960. Once again the family moved to Milton, Fla. Where Walter retired from the Military of 22 year of Service to his Country.

Josephine and Walter moved up to Washington State. Josephine loved Gardening. Flower were her passion. Very year the back yard would be full of all different flowers. She has a Beautiful Pink Dogwood tree which she loved. She spent hours working in her yard. Josephine was also a landscape. In another life we all would say.

She is preceded in death by her parents Jack and Mary Tanis, and her husband Walter B. Achen sister Nellie Hayes, her son Walter Kevin Achen.

Survivors include: daughter Teresa and Janine, Sister Mary Jean of Port Townsend, Katherine Woollett  Tacoma. Grandson Josh Berthiaume, 2 Great- Granddaughter Emmalee & Heidi. Jamie Guiberson 2 Great-Grandsons. Lois Achen Baudette MN. Numerous Nieces, Nephew and other relatives and Dear Friends all over the United States.
