Lorenzo “Larry” Montes

Larry passed away on August 16, 2022, at View Ridge Retirement Home in Everett, Washington, at the age of 74. He was surrounded by his beloved wife, Hope, and four daughters, Lindsay, Sydney, Jordaan, and Gabrielle. Larry is also survived by his three sons-in-law, and his two beautiful granddaughters, Ainsley and Clancy.
At the age of 19 Larry volunteered to join the Marine Corps and served in Vietnam. Larry rose to the rank of Corporal and represented the Marines on the Cross-Country Running Team. Larry was honored with the Vietnam Service Medal w/ Bronze, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/ device, RVN Cross of Gallantry w/ Palm, Navy Unit Citation, Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Rifle Marksman Badge. While Larry took pride in his military service, his passion in life revolved around his faith in Jesus, family, and the San Francisco Giants Baseball Team.
Using the GI bill, Larry graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
The bulk of Larry’s career as an engineer was spent working for GTE in Mountain View, California. Larry’s work was so exemplary that he was featured in the Hispanic Times in December/January, 1985.
At the age of 57, Larry retired as symptoms of Parkinson’s emerged. Larry’s service in Vietnam, along with his exposure to Agent Orange, ultimately took his life. Larry was laid to rest in Tahoma National Cemetery on August 26.
Larry will be sincerely missed. Semper Fi.
